December can be all go-go-go. The last week can also be a pause, a chance to take a breath before the year ends. Instead of rushing into New Year’s resolutions or piling on more pressure, towards the end of this month, think of it as an opportunity to reset gently.

An end of year reset isn’t about reinventing yourself. It’s about closing the year a little calmer, creating space for joy and carrying only what feels supportive into the months ahead.

Here are 4 simple steps to help you end the year with ease:

1. Reflect, Don’t Rewrite

It’s easy to focus on what didn’t get done, but now is a good time to look back on what did go well. What small wins are you proud of? What moments of joy stood out? Reflection builds confidence and reminds you that progress doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful.

2. Clear the Decks

Choose just one small area to declutter before January – your desk, your wardrobe or even your fridge. A single reset can make you feel lighter and more prepared to step into the new year without carrying old clutter with you.

3. Tiny Joys List

Write down three little things that make you smile – a favourite song, a hot chocolate, a walk in the fresh air. Then, make space for them daily. These tiny joys act as reminders that calm and happiness are built from small, consistent choices.

4. Plan Lightly

Instead of overloading yourself with New Year’s resolutions, choose just one or two things you’d like to carry forward into the year ahead. Make them intentions rather than resolutions. Keep it simple, gentle and realistic. This way, you step into January with clarity not pressure.

Setting the tone for the year ahead.

Your end of year reset doesn’t need to be dramatic. It’s not about doing more, it’s about creating breathing space, celebrating what matters and choosing to end the year with calm and kindness. Ease now sets the tone for ease later.

Take a moment to acknowledge how far you’ve come.Even if it hasn’t always felt easy, you’ve taken steps however small, to ease overwhelm and create more space for yourself. That matters, and it’s worth celebrating.

Let’s work together.

If you’d like to carry this momentum into the New Year and keep building on the positive changes you’ve started, I’d love to have a chat with you about how we can make that happen together. Book a free call with me to see how we can dance into 2026 rather than wade through treacle!

Refection Prompt:

What’s one small thing I’d like to leave behind this year, and one small thing I’d love to carry with me into the next?

How would you like this Christmas to feel? Imagine a season that’s calmer, less chaotic and shaped around what truly matters to you. A Christmas where you have space to breathe, time to enjoy, and energy left over instead of feeling like you’re rushing from one thing to the next.

It is possible.

What feels good for you?

Christmas doesn’t have to be about ticking off every tradition or saying yes to everything. You get to decide what feels good, whether that’s joyful gatherings, quiet moments, or a mix of both. By making a few intentional choices now, you can create a season that uplifts you rather than drains you.

Again, it requires some thought and planning so that you make decisions with intent rather than just letting it happen!

5 practical ways to make Christmas calmer this year.

1. Pick Your Priorities

Take a moment to ask yourself: what really makes Christmas feel special for me? Maybe it’s decorating the tree, a favourite meal, or one particular tradition. Keep those and give yourself permission to drop the rest. Simpler doesn’t mean less meaningful, often it makes the season more enjoyable and it certainly preserves energy!

2. Delegate the Doing

You don’t need to carry the whole season on your shoulders. Share out the cooking, wrapping or shopping. Let children, partners, or friends take on small jobs. Even if things aren’t done exactly your way, the load is lighter and that matters more than perfection.

3. Gift of Time

Presents don’t have to mean piles under the tree. Suggest experiences, shared outings or simply time together in the new year. For some, this is far more meaningful than another item on the shelf and it takes the pressure off spending too much.

4. Protect Your Peace

Build in small pauses to keep your energy steady. That might mean a quiet coffee before the day begins, a short walk to get some fresh air or ten minutes with a book. These moments of calm help you feel more grounded and better able to enjoy the season.

5. Keep It Real

Release the idea of a “perfect” Christmas. Social media highlight reels don’t show the messy kitchens, family disagreements or the burnt roast potatoes. Remind yourself that real is enough and often far more joyful than chasing picture-perfect expectations.

Protect your peace.

Christmas isn’t a competition or a performance. It’s a season you’re allowed to shape around what feels good for you not what everyone else expects. By keeping things simpler, sharing the load and protecting your peace, you create space for moments of joy, whatever they look like for you this year.

By the end of November, many of us feel like meals are just another thing on the endless list. Darker evenings, colder weather and busy schedules can make cooking feel like a chore whether you’re feeding yourself, cooking for two or trying to keep a whole family satisfied.

But meals don’t have to be complicated. With a few smart habits and simple approaches, you can take the pressure off mealtimes, save precious headspace and even turn cooking into something you enjoy rather than endure.

For me, it’s all in the planning. If I make time on a Sunday (doesn’t have to be a Sunday obviously) to plan meals, batch cook etc. I literally dance into the following week, I feel prepared and so much less stressed.

So, here are five sanity-saving ideas to try in the run up until Christmas:

1. Batch It

Cook once, eat twice (or three times). Make extra portions of soups, stews, or chilli and freeze them. This feels particularly wonderful on the nights when energy is low and the fridge looks bare.

2. Tray Magic

Minimal fuss, minimal washing up. Throw chopped veg, a protein of your choice, and some herbs onto a baking tray, roast, and serve. Dinner practically cooks itself while you reclaim some time for other things. There are so many tray bake recipes online that are brilliant for this.

3. Slow Cooker Wins

A slow cooker is like having kitchen back-up. Five minutes of prep in the morning (or the evening before) means dinner is ready when you walk in, no juggling pans after a long day. Again, lots of great recipes online – spend some time finding your favourites.

4. The Shortcut Shelf

Keep a small stock of quick wins in your cupboard or freezer – things like frozen veg, packet rice, fishfingers, packet sauces. They’re not “cheats,” they’re lifesavers when time is tight and you just need to get food on the table without fuss.

5. Meal Mix & Match

Take the pressure off by creating a short list of five go-to meals everyone (or just you) enjoys. Rotate them through the week so planning and shopping feels simple. When meals are predictable, you spend less time deciding and more time enjoying.

Protect your energy.

Quick meal ideas aren’t about cutting corners; they’re about protecting your energy. Whether you’re cooking for a family or for yourself, these small habits ease the daily pressure, free up headspace and create more space for calm in your evenings.

Give yourself permission to factor in a “quick meal” at least once a week. Pick a day that is a high-pressure day and take the pressure off dinner time. It can be a game changer!

The final months of the year can feel like one long list of expenses, higher heating bills, food shops that seem to double in size, Christmas gifts and endless social plans. It’s no wonder so many people dread opening their bank statements in January.

But here’s the thing: you don’t need to strip away all the fun to feel more financially in control. A few small habits, started now, can make the months ahead feel much lighter. Think of it as giving yourself a helping hand.

Tried & tested practical tips to ease pending and start saving –

1. The 24-Hour Rule

Impulse spending often sneaks up in the form of little “treats” a jumper you spotted online, another festive decoration or that extra round at the bar. The 24-hour rule is simple: before buying, wait a day. Most of the time, the urge will pass and you’ll thank yourself for saving the money. If you still want it after 24 hours, you can choose to buy with intention rather than on impulse.

2. No-Spend Days

Pick one or two days a week where you consciously decide not to spend on extras – coffees, snacks, takeaways or those little online orders that add up. It’s not about cutting joy but about creating space in your budget. The small savings from these days can be set aside for the things that matter most in December.

3. Use What You Have

Before heading to the shops, take a look at what’s already in your cupboards, fridge and freezer. You might be surprised at how much is sitting unused. Challenge yourself to plan a week’s meals around what you already have – tins, pasta or frozen items. It saves money instantly, clears space for Christmas food, and avoids waste.

4. Plan Purchases

Instead of panic-buying everything in December, start planning now. Make a simple list of the gifts, food, or festive extras you really want to buy. Then spread those purchases over the weeks ahead. Not only does this spread the cost, but it also gives you time to look for offers or thoughtful alternatives, far less stressful than last-minute shopping.

5. Cut the Hidden Extras

Often, it’s not the big spends that hurt most it’s the small, forgotten ones. Take ten minutes to look through your bank statement or subscriptions list. Are you still paying for apps you don’t use, streaming services you’ve forgotten about, or memberships that don’t feel worthwhile? Pausing or cancelling just one or two of these can free up money for the things you really value.

Learning to be intentional.

By making a few simple swaps and habits now, you can take the sting out of end-of-year spending. Remember: it’s not about perfection or cutting out joy. It’s about being intentional with your money so that December feels a little calmer and you feel less anxious.

By the time December rolls around, it’s easy to feel like everything happens at once -spending, shopping, cleaning, prepping, and trying to keep up with the pace. But what if you could make a few smart swaps now, in October, that free up time, money, and energy later?

These small changes don’t take much effort, but they’ll make the next couple of months feel calmer and a lot more manageable.

It’s so easy to feel overwhelmed in these last 3 months of the year, these practical tips will help ease the overwhelm.

Practical tips to make life easier.

1. Swap Spontaneous Snacks for Planned Pick-Me-Ups

Rather than grabbing snacks or drinks on the go (which add up quickly), keep a favourite ready-to-go option with you like a chocolate bar or sparkling water from a multi-pack. It costs less, saves you time queueing, and still gives you that “pick-me-up” moment without the overspend.

2. Swap endless social scrolling for a quick declutter.

It’s amazing how much time disappears when we’re scrolling. Instead of losing 20 minutes online, use that time to declutter just 10 items from your home – a drawer, a shelf or the “junk” corner that always builds up. Little by little, you’ll create breathing space now and avoid the frantic pre-Christmas tidy later.

3. Swap big unplanned weekly Shops for meal planning

Rather than doing a large, unfocused food shop each week, take a few minutes to plan your meals. It helps you buy only what you need, cut down on waste, and avoid the mid-week “what’s for dinner?” panic. The money saved can be redirected into your December budget, while the time saved eases everyday stress.

4. Swap “All at once” thinking for “Little and Often”

Instead of leaving everything for December – the cleaning, shopping, or prep tasks, start breaking things down into smaller chunks now. For example, wrap gifts as you buy them, or do 15 minutes of cleaning a few times a week rather than a big deep-clean in one go. The gradual approach means December won’t feel like one overwhelming marathon.

5. Swap “Last minute panic” for a simple notes list.

Instead of relying on memory (mines not great at the best of times) and then stressing in December when you forget something, start a running list now in your phone or notebook. Jot down gift ideas, food you’ll need or small tasks as they pop into your head. By the time December arrives, you’ll already have a plan – no more frantic dashes or overspending because you forgot what you needed.

Making little shifts.

Smart swaps aren’t about giving things up they’re about choosing differently so that you can feel more at ease. By making these little shifts now, you’re not just saving money or time; you’re creating space to enjoy December with more calm and control and much less overwhelm.

As the nights draw in and the shops start to sneak out the Christmas decorations earlier and earlier, it’s easy to feel that familiar mix of excitement and financial pressure. Gifts, food, family outings, social plans, the costs creep up quickly, and December can soon feel more stressful than joyful.

Small practical shifts.

But here’s the good news: you don’t have to cut out all the fun to stay on top of your budget. By making a few small, practical shifts now, you can ease the pressure and make December feel lighter, calmer, and still a month to look forward to!

Budgeting can feel like it sucks the joy out of everything BUT the truth of the matter is, it’s overspending that is the joy killer so by using some of my practical tips below, you can start saving a little to take the pressure off.

Here are 4 simple ways to start saving before Christmas:

1. The List Reset

Before you get swept into the “buy for everyone” mentality, take a step back and write a fresh gift list. Who do you really want to buy for? Cut out the “obligatory extras” (the office acquaintance, the distant cousin’s neighbour’s child) and focus on the people who matter most.
A shorter list means less money spent and more thought put into each gift.

2. Joyful Swaps

Not every gift has to come from the shops. Suggest a Secret Santa for groups of friends or extended family where everyone buys just one thoughtful present. Or think outside the box with homemade bakes, framed photos, or a shared experience like a festive walk or film night. BUT only if these are doable and not energy zappers!
These swaps save money and often feel more meaningful.

3. Budget Pots

Instead of leaving all the costs until December, start setting aside a little each week now. It doesn’t need to be big, £10–£20 a week adds up quickly. Whether it’s in a cash jar on the kitchen shelf or a separate savings account, seeing it build gives you peace of mind.
By Christmas, you’ll have a ready-made pot for gifts, food, or fun without raiding your main budget.

4. Food Smart

Christmas food shopping is notorious for blowing budgets. Get ahead by picking up a few extras each week: frozen nibbles, tins, or snacks with a long shelf life. By spreading the cost now, you’ll avoid the last-minute panic and the big December bill.
Stocking up gradually means you can still enjoy the festive spread without the financial sting.

My final thought.

Saving before Christmas doesn’t mean saying no to joy, it means being intentional, so you can say yes to what really matters. With a little planning now, you can head into December feeling calmer, lighter, and ready to enjoy the season, rather than dread the spending.

Those of you who read my blogs regularly will know that I usually take a break from social media in December, I just find that the world becomes slightly mad and chaotic and the less “noise” the better!

So, if you are limping towards the end of the year, if you are feeling overwhelmed and knackered, remember that this too shall pass. Christmas happens every year and some years its easier/more enjoyable than others.

Christmas isn’t a competition, it’s not the time to be comparing ourselves to our friends and families – we all do things differently, there is always other stuff going on that we don’t see. Give yourself a break and resist the doom scrolling.

If this year has been a tough one, well done for getting this far – you’re AMAZING!

If this year has been a celebratory one, well done for your achievements – you’re AMAZING!

I hope that you all get some time to do something magical this season, that you find time to be kind as kindness costs nothing and can make the BIGGEST difference. If you are really struggling, don’t struggle on your own – there are many organisations out there at the end of a phone that are there to listen and they’re brilliant at it.

Sending you all much love and magic this Christmas and I look forward to blogging again in 2025!

Well, my friends, this can be SUCH a tricky one. I should start by saying that present buying is not for everyone and that is okay. Maybe you are someone who sticks to money and vouchers because a) you have little time to do much else or b) that is what keeps everyone the happiest!

The joy of giving.

However, if you enjoy buying presents, if you like to go out and find thoughtful gifts, read on.

I think where most people fall down when buying presents is firstly making assumptions on what people would like based on their own tastes. Easy to do and totally understandable but buying thoughtful presents takes a little more effort than that.

Secondly, and ironically, it’s then overthinking the purchase, doubting yourself and then procrastinating wildly and it then takes forever to work through your present list.

It’s all in the planning.

So, before you start buying anything, identify whom you are buying for and how much you want to spend. I would recommend writing this all down, maybe in a list format. Then against each person you can make notes as to whether this present has to be sent in the post or handed over in person (important consideration.)

Ideas for thoughtful gifts.

Obviously, everyone has different ideas about “thoughtful gifts” but below is a selection of ideas that might work for you;

The bundle of books – this can be a pile of paperbacks purchased from a charity shop, that way you can buy a load and then wrap up with some ribbon.

Theatre/gallery vouchers – these don’t have to be the full amount for tickets but can go towards a special day out.

Photo books – great for a friend with whom you have a long history with.

Personalised journals – buy a plain but beautiful notebook, add a photo of your own to the front and create a gratitude journal. You can even write on the first page; how grateful you are to have them in your life!

Care package – fill a box with little things, a nice hand cream, a sparkly nail varnish, a little packet of sweets. Things that are personal to that person.

What would someone else appreciate?

Take time to really think about what this person would appreciate. It might be that they never treat themselves to lovely aromatherapy bath oil and just because it wouldn’t be a treat for you, don’t underestimate how much they’d enjoy this gift.

Don’t overthink it.

Don’t over think – just the fact you are thinking about someone and looking to buy/make them something thoughtful will be appreciated by the receiver.

If you start planning early, you’ll have time to buy the thoughtful gifts and enjoy the process of doing so.

It’s by no coincidence that I am writing this post at a time of year where we can be pushed and pulled by so many different things. As we head towards the end of the year, we are already feeling a little weary and then to add another layer of weariness, the social diary starts to get a little too busy.

Saying no.

Most of us find it really quite hard to say no. We like to be nice; we like to please people and we also worry that if we turn things down, we won’t get asked again. All of these feelings are totally understandable but not necessarily a good reason to say YES.

So, how do we learn to say no?

Firstly, I would recommend you putting yourself in a position where you have time to think about the invite. This isn’t always possible but IF, you receive a text with an invite, you do not have to reply straight away, you can tell them you will need to check your diary or and with your partner before you get back to them. Give yourself space to think about whether this is something you actually want/can manage to do.

Giving yourself time to say no.

The “no” response: “Thank you so much for thinking of me but unfortunately I can’t make it this time.”

If you are put on the spot, the same applies really – “thank you for the invite, that sounds great, but I do need to check with X or look on the family calendar at home, can I get back to you?”

Why are you saying no?

When you have created that space for yourself, ask yourself whether you are saying yes because it’s something you’d really like to do OR because you are worried about hurting someone’s feelings. Really dig deep and decide if saying yes will serve you well and not put you under added pressure.

What could I be saying yes to?

I really like the coaching question – “By saying no to this, what am I saying yes to?”

So by saying no to an invite to a dinner or drinks party, you could be saying yes to a chilled night at home, a long bath and an early night?

Saying no to a friend’s shopping trip one weekend, you could be saying yes to getting on top of all the jobs on your to do list that have been niggling away at you?

You need to practice saying no.

Learning to say no is like anything, it can feel very uncomfortable at first but if you practice it, it becomes easier, something that can make a big difference to your life and you find out that the world doesn’t cave in if you don’t always say yes!

No-one enjoys being ill and at this time of year as life speeds up and gets busier, it’s easy to feel run down or under the weather. Kids are at school and are passing around delightful little germs like a horrible game of pass the parcel. We all made a promise to ourselves to be better at self-care this year and to NOT be feeling rubbish by Christmas.

It’s not too late to take a little care.

It would be daft and probably untrue to say we can avoid the various lurgies, but we don’t have to put ourselves in the firing line. If that firing line is unavoidable, then what can we do to protect ourselves better?

What can we do to protect ourselves better?

A balanced diet – it’s cold, it’s wet, the tendency is to eat rubbish and comfort eat. There is nothing wrong with the occasional stodgy meal, something that cheers us up but planning your meals to include fruit and vegetables, foods that fuel like stews and casseroles will keep some of those bugs at bay.

Get outdoors – everyday won’t be a wet one. If the sun is shining (even if it’s not) getting outside, breathing in some fresh air and having a good old-fashioned stomp does wonders for the immune system. We should be aiming to get outside as much as we can.

Supplements – these aren’t for everyone and getting advice on what you can/should take is always advisable but if you are in deficit of certain vitamins and minerals, take the tablets.

Exercise – Not something we necessarily feel like doing on those cold and gloomy days but moving, whether its walking, running, swimming or a gym work out will make you feel better and you know it.

Self-care rituals – warm baths using aromatherapy oils or Epsom salts ease aches and pains. Making sure that you protect your skin from the elements with a good moisturiser helps keep our skin hydrated. Regular use of hand creams avoids sore and chapped hands.

These are just a few things that we can put into practice to keep us as healthy as possible over the winter months, they don’t take a lot of planning or use a lot of energy (apart from the exercise) but they can make all the difference.
