February can feel like an awkward month.
It’s still winter really.
You’re probably tired of “cosying down” but not quite full of spring energy either.
Many of the people I work with describe this time as feeling stuck in between. You don’t want to hibernate anymore, but you also don’t have the headspace or motivation for big changes.
What you might be ready for, though, is a small sense of forward motion something that feels positive without being exhausting.
The bridge into Spring.
Think of February as the bridge into Spring. Not a restart, not a push, just a few quiet steps in the right direction.
Practical things you can do to move you forward.
1. Open things up.
This isn’t about spring cleaning. It’s about letting a bit of light in.
- Open the curtains earlier in the morning
- Get the windows open for ten minutes
- Swap heavy throws for something lighter on the sofa
Tiny shifts like this help your brain register that things are changing even if the weather hasn’t caught up yet.
2. Do one “nice but useful” task
Not productive. Not urgent. Just helpful.
For example:
- Clearing one kitchen drawer
- Sorting the bag you carry every day
- Wiping down one surface that’s been annoying you
Choose one thing. Stop when it’s done. No spiralling into “while I’m here…”
Completion matters more than momentum.
3. Create a small anchor in your day
February is a great time to add something steady, not new, just grounding.
This could be:
- A warm drink you sit down to properly
- Five minutes of fresh air after lunch
- A short walk at roughly the same time each day
Anchors help when motivation is patchy. They give your day a rhythm without demanding energy.
4. Let go of one “should”
Just one.
Something you’ve been carrying because you feel you ought to not because it’s helping you.
Ask yourself:
- “Would I notice if this didn’t get done this week?”
- “Am I doing this out of habit, guilt, or expectation?”
Putting something down can be just as forward-moving as picking something up.
5. Notice what you’re drawn towards
You don’t need to act on it yet just notice.
Maybe you’re:
- Craving a bit more order
- Wanting lighter meals
- Feeling ready to clear some space (physically or mentally)
That noticing is important. It’s often the first sign that you’re gently moving forward even if nothing changes on the outside just yet.
A thought…..
February doesn’t need fixing.
You don’t need motivating.
And you certainly don’t need to rush ahead of yourself.
This month can simply be about soft readiness, making a little room for what’s coming, without forcing it.
In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing more about decluttering and creating space but for now, these small steps are more than enough.
You’re not stuck or unmotivated. You’re not being flakey – you’re just between seasons.
